Initial data
A report on the observation of an unusual object by Gamutylov I.V. in Leningrad.
One evening in February 1976, I was riding with the guys from an icy mountain near my house and saw an object flying across the sky. It appeared on the right from behind the houses and was a ball with clear contours. The apparent size of the ball was slightly smaller than the lunar disk. This ball felt like a material body, glowed silver-gray with a metallic sheen. the glow seemed to come from the surface of the ball, which was colored heterogeneously, there were some streaks, it looked a little like the moon's surface: some areas were dark, others lighter.
On three sides, the ball was bordered by a narrow strip glowing red, which turned into a long tail behind the ball, also red in color, with fairly clear contours. [in the central part of the tail, inside, there was a narrow strip of approximately orange color, gradually turning into the main red. the length of the tail was about 3-4 ball diameters.
The object seemed to sparkle all the time, its movement was uniform and silent. I can't compare the flight speed with anything, but it wasn't very high, because I watched the object for about 5 minutes, until it gradually decreased in size and disappeared to the left behind the houses, turning into a glowing red star.
When the ball was at the point closest to me in the sky, I saw it at about a 60 degree angle to the horizon. It seemed to me that he was flying parallel to Kosciuszko Street and horizontally. I did not experience any unpleasant sensations.
The weather was frosty that evening, it seems the stars were visible. There were guys with me: Kostya Petrov and Yura Korchagin, they also watched the flight of the object.
I have not observed such phenomena in the past.
Hypotheses
Space debris
By space junk refers to all manmade objects and their fragments in space, which is already faulty, not functioning, and will never be able to serve any useful purpose. Currently in low earth orbits up to altitudes of about 2000 km is, according to various estimates, about 220 thousand (300 thousand according to the UN office for outer space Affairs, October 2009) man-made objects weighing up to 5000 tons.
In the case of UFOs, it is possible to expand this list lost cosmonauts things (tools, etc.).
