April 20, 1897. "Blimps over Sistersville, Virginia, with bright red, green and white lights. Described as "a huge cone-shaped machine, about 60 meters in length, with fins on both sides." It is known that the balloons were not in the air at any of these places or times.

10. februarNoget eksploderede i luften over Madrid, Spanien. Vragstumper faldt ned, ruder knustes, mure revnede. I fem timer hang en glødende sky over byen, hvor genstanden var eksploderet. Panik i gaderne.

april"Luftskib" over Kansas City. Et mægtigt søgelys strålede ned. Iagttaget over Chicago den 11. Iagttaget i Benton, Texas, den 16. med grønne og røde halelys. Fra andre byer i Texas angaves den at være cigarformet, med enorme fremspring, strålende oplyst af to stærke projektører. Venus igen nær ved Jorden.

20. april"Luftskibe over Sistersville, Virginia, med klare røde, grønne og hvide Lys. Beskrevet som en "kæmpemæssig, kegleformet maskine, ca. 6o meter lang, med finner på begge sider". Ingen balloner vides at have været i luften på noget af disse tidspunkter eller steder.
