V.F. Shuralev writes an excerpt from N.K. Roerich's travels in 1923-1926 along the "Great Indian Route" to the Commission on the AY:
Sunny cloudless morning - the clear blue sky sparkles. A huge dark kite is rushing rapidly through our camp. Our Mongols and we were watching him. But now one of the Buryat lamas raises his hand to the blue sky:
"What is it? A white balloon? An airplane?"
We notice something shiny moving from north to south at a high altitude. Three strong binoculars were brought from the handkerchief. We observe a voluminous spheroidal body sparkling in the sun, clearly visible among the blue sky. It's moving very fast. Then we notice how it changes direction more to the southwest and disappears behind the Humboldt snow chain. The whole camp is watching the unusual phenomenon, and the lamas are whispering "The Sign of Shambhala."
