One of the most famous anomalous zones associated with the Great Patriotic War is the swampy valley of Myasny Bor, located 30 kilometers from Novgorod.
During the Luban offensive operation of 1942, many soldiers of the 2nd Soviet Shock Army, divisions of the German Wehrmacht, the Spanish "Blue Division" and other troops died in this area. There are many unburied remains left here.
Galina Pavlova, the head of the Search group from the city of Engels, Saratov region, told about one case that happened to her in 1997:
"The forests of the Meat Forest are scary and mystical. As soon as you are alone there, the forest starts making sounds. The cries of "Hurrah" are clearly audible, as if the restless souls of the fallen soldiers are still carrying out the attack. The day we found the mines, I followed the guys on the trail. I stopped at a place that has been excavated many times. Suddenly I saw that the trees were leaning in the same direction, although there was no wind at all. I called the guys, and we found a decomposed wooden box and old mines."
