Alexey, the "black archaeologist" who in 1942-1943 conducted excavations in the forests near Bryansk, where the Russian Front was located, told an interesting story.
"We have unearthed the bodies of six Russian and 11 German soldiers, four of whom were Wehrmacht soldiers in a swamp trench. We were chopping logs and found decomposed German boots with bones sticking out.
Then we started a more thorough excavation and found pelvic bones, spine and ribs. Little by little we dug up the remains of four people. It was getting dark. We left the skeletons at the trench and set up camp in a meadow 200 meters away.
Something happened last night. We were woken up by Valera on duty. He told us that something strange was going on. We stood up and listened intently. We heard German speech, songs, laughter and the sound of caterpillars. It was very scary.
In the morning we went to the trench. It looked the same as when we left it. But when we went a little further, we saw tank ditches and, most surprisingly, fresh tank tracks."
