The researchers of the All-Russian Research Institute of Sugar Beet and Sugar (E.Cherepukhin and G.V. Cherepukhina) write:
On January 30, at 19-30, we had a chance to witness what is now commonly called abnormal atmospheric phenomena.
After leaving the house, we found a glowing object in the southern side of the sky (in the direction of the city of Voronezh), which was low above the horizon and, slowly descending, disappeared behind it at 19-45. The oval-shaped object was like a cluster of glowing orange balls (the flame of a fire burning in the distance), which sparkled and shimmered. The object was located at an angle of about 45 degrees to the horizon. Its magnitude was slightly smaller than the apparent size of the moon.
Today (01/31/85) in the morning we learned that yesterday in the newspaper "Trud" a note was published about the meeting of the plane with an unidentified object. After reviewing this article, we decided to write about an unusual phenomenon that we observed yesterday.
The number of glowing balls that made up the object was about 15.
