The strange phenomenon that Pedro Peyronet experienced could be ignored by the press, the authorities and the people, as happens with many fantastic stories that are not too trustworthy and have no evidence. This case is different.
The man reported that he picked up a strange young man who was hitchhiking on the road, and when he dropped him off, he disappeared, leaving burnt shoe prints on the carpet of his car. This story shocked his people and the nation, and the police are investigating.
Pedro Peirone is a well—known businessman in San Jose de la Esquina, a city in Santa Fe, where he installs and repairs mills and submersible pumps. Peyronet recalls that he exchanged a few words with the boy, but managed to find out only that he was 17 years old and came from Arteaga. He was unable to identify any other personal information. He even says he was mysterious when he asked him where he wanted to get off.
"I'll tell you," he replied.
"Finally he asked me to let him down at the intersection of the road leading to the cemetery, and as soon as he did, I felt a terrible smell of burning. So I stopped to see if anything was on fire. The moment I got out, I looked around and didn't see this guy anywhere else," recalls a visibly worried and surprised Peyronet in the first interview he gave to a local channel, on the same Monday morning, from the place where he allegedly dropped off a passenger.
When the businessman stopped his truck immediately after dropping the young man off, he says he was looking for where the smell of burning was coming from, and noticed that it was coming from under the passenger seat.
"I see that the carpet has melted, according to the shape of the guy's shoes. Then I look at the ground, where this man went, whether he left traces when he got off, and there is nothing, no traces. It feels like no one got out of my truck."
In the interview, Peyronet shows the carpet of his Toyota Hilux and the place where he stopped, where there are no traces of other shoes on the ground. He says that later on the way he met friends, and they helped him check this place, but they did not find any other traces of the mysterious young man. Then the man decided to go to the police and write a statement.
Recalling this moment, the businessman says that the boy had no books and that when he asked him if he was studying, he replied "no". He regrets not asking him about his last name or something. He says he didn't pay much attention to the boy because he was thinking about work issues.
Peyronet gave several interviews on radio and television after the experience, and in them he says that he is a Catholic, that he believes very much in the Virgin and that before that he did not believe in paranormal phenomena or mysterious events, but now he does not know what to say. « I'm a little tense, nervous.
"I'm not afraid, but I can't explain what happened," he says.
In the city, this man has already appeared in the local media, because some time ago he got into a serious traffic accident in which he lost another car. By the way, during his story in an interview, he says that he often has problems with cars.

The mysterious episode mobilized people in the area, and the municipality of Arteaga checked the surveillance cameras. The images show Peyron's truck driving past the place where, according to him, he saw the boy, but no one is visible there.
The camera cannot capture the place where the car stopped and the alleged young man opened the door and went inside, who was further ahead. However, an acquaintance of Peyronet, who was driving past him at that time in his car, could see that the businessman was stopped on the side of the road, and his door was open. But he saw it alone.
San Jose de la Esquina Commissioner Guillermo Fleitas claims that this episode is "strange" and that nothing like this has ever happened to him during his time in the police, according to what he published.newspaper El Dia. But, despite widespread beliefs and superstitions, the case was taken seriously and an investigation was launched.
The carpet from Peyronet's truck was officially seized and sent to the scientific office to be sent to the Rosario Fire Department, "to try to establish which element was used to leave these traces," the commissioner told the morning newspaper.

El hombre denunció que recogió a un extraño joven que pedía aventón en la carretera, y que al dejarlo, desapareció y dejó las huellas de sus zapatos quemadas en la alfombra de su auto. La historia ha conmocionado a su pueblo y a la nación, y la policía está investigando.

Pedro Peirone es un empresario conocido en San José de la Esquina, localidad de Santa Fe donde se dedica a la instalación y reparación de molinos y bombas sumergibles. Habitualmente, suele viajar a las ciudades del sur de su provincia donde tiene algunos clientes, y no es raro que en la ruta recoja a estudiantes, trabajadores o caminantes que buscan llegar más rápido a su destino, algo normal en la zona.
La mañana del lunes 26 de febrero, cuando el hombre regresaba a su casa desde el pueblo vecino de Arteaga, por la ruta provincial 92, dice que vio a un joven con uniforme de escuela industrial haciendo autostop, y lo recogió. Asegura que el chico parecía una persona normal, un poco tímido y reservado, pero dice que no notó nada extraño durante el viaje.
Peirone recuerda que intercambió algunas palabras con el muchacho pero sólo logró saber que tenía 17 años y era de Arteaga. No pudo determinar ningún otro dato personal. Incluso, dice que se mostró misterioso cuando él le preguntó dónde quería bajarse. “Ya le voy a decir”, habría contestado.
“Finalmente me pidió que lo bajara en el cruce del camino al cementerio y, apenas lo hizo, sentí un olor a quemado espantoso; por eso paré para ver si había algo prendido fuego. En ese momento que me bajo, miro atrás, y al tipo no lo vi más, por ningún lado”, recuerda visiblemente preocupado y asombrado Peirone en la primera entrevista que dio a un canal local, la misma mañana del lunes, desde el lugar donde supuestamente dejó al pasajero.
Huellas quemadas en la alfombra
Cuando el empresario detuvo su camioneta, inmediatamente después de dejar al joven, dice que buscó de dónde provenía el olor a quemado y observó que venía de abajo del asiento del pasajero. “Veo que la alfombra estaba derretida, con la forma de los zapatos del tipo. Entonces miro en la tierra para ver a dónde se fue esta persona, si había dejado huellas al bajarse, y no hay nada, no hay ningún rastro. Es como si nadie se hubiera bajado de mi camoneta”.
En la entrevista, Peirone muestra la alfombra de su Toyota Hilux y el lugar donde se detuvo, en el que no hay ninguna marca de otros zapatos en la tierra. Dice que después se encontró con unos amigos en el camino y le ayudaron a revisar el lugar, pero no encontraron ninguna otra huella del misterioso jovencito. Al recordar el momento, el empresario dice que el chico no llevaba libros y que al preguntarle si estudiaba le dijo que no. Lamenta no haberle preguntado por su apellido o más cosas. Un hombre conocido y querido en el pueblo
Peirone dio varias entrevistas radiales y televisivas después de lo que vivió, y en ellas cuenta que es católico, que cree mucho en la virgen, y que antes de esto no creía en cuestiones paranormales o hechos misteriosos, pero ahora no sabe qué decir. “Estoy un poquito tensionado, con nerviosismo. No tengo miedo, pero no puedo explicar lo que pasó”, asegura.
En el pueblo, este hombre ya había salido en los medios locales porque tiempo atrás sufrió un grave accidente de tránsito por el que perdió otro vehículo. Casualmente, durante su relato en una de las entrevistas, cuenta que tiene problemas en sus coches a menudo. “Vengo medio asustado con los autos que se me queman”, dice.
Por otra parte, el diario El Día destaca que para los vecinos de San José Peirone “es muy conocido y querido en el pueblo”. La gente cree en él “y no tiene maldad”, afirman. Al tiempo que recuerdan varios accidentes fatales ocurridos tanto en la zona donde el hombre recogió al misterioso joven como en el cruce cercano al cementerio, donde desapareció.
Pruebas en cámaras de seguridad
El misterioso episodio movilizó a la gente de la zona y el municipio de Arteaga revisó las cámaras de seguridad. Las imágenes muestran a la camioneta de Peirone pasando por el lugar donde dice que vio al muchacho, pero no se ve a nadie allí.
La cámara no alcanza a tomar el sitio donde el vehículo se detuvo y el supuesto joven abrió la puerta y se subió, que fue más adelante. Sin embargo, un conocido de Peirone que lo cruzó en ese momento con su auto, pudo ver que el empresario estaba detenido al costado de la ruta y su puerta estaba abierta. Pero lo vio solo.
Abren una investigación
El comisario de San José de la Esquina, Guillermo Fleitas, afirma que el episodio “es raro” y que nunca le pasó algo así a lo largo de su experiencia como policía, según publicó el diario El Día. Pero a pesar de las creencias populares y la superstición, el caso fue tomado en serio y se puso en marcha una investigación.
La alfombra de la camioneta de Peirone fue formalmente secuestrada y enviada a la oficina científica para ser remitida a Bomberos de Rosario “para tratar de establecer qué elemento se utilizó para que queden esas marcas”, dice el comisario al matutino.
También indica que se ha informado del hecho al juzgado de menores y se cursaron notas a otras dependencias policiales para saber si hubo alguna averiguación de paradero o fuga de hogar.
Mientras tanto, el fenómeno sigue generando interrogantes. Los videos con la historia de este hombre se han hecho virales en las redes, alcanzando más de un millón de vistas. Están quienes lo toman para la burla y quienes creen que realmente sucedió.
