Initial data
S.A. Zhila writes to the Commission on:
On August 23, 1978, at 2-50, I was woken up by Yu.I. Pozdnyakov, who, returning home, saw, approaching the house, a strange phenomenon in the sky in the form of a luminous cone.
Being surprised by the excited state of my friend, who is usually so calm, I jumped out of bed and saw only a strange glow in the window. It was obvious that this glow was coming from a part of the sky that I couldn't see because of the high-rise building opposite.
Quickly charging the camera with sensitive film and dressing lightly, I followed my friend outside in order to take a better look at this phenomenon and, if it is really interesting, take a picture of it.
Pozdnyakov took a homemade telescope with a magnification of about 25x and we went out onto the path leading to the carpool, following which to the power line, we saw a glowing trail between the houses.
We couldn't see the beginning and the end of this trail because of the houses opposite us. This footprint looked very unusual. From behind the house, where he apparently went, there was a flicker, as if something was moving there. Even more strange was the end of this luminous strip, which I saw after walking a dozen more steps further. The trail came out from behind the house, the same thickness as I saw it between the houses, but expanding sharply, reducing its luminosity accordingly. this footprint did not resemble anything I had previously seen, and I decided to photograph it. I photographed standing up, without stopping, with a shutter speed of about 6 seconds.
Then we went back and looked where the trail went. Passing behind the house next to ours, I saw it in the form of a winding, winding strip going towards Moscow. The trail was stationary and no changes in luminosity were observed anywhere else. I realized that the object that left it had gone far beyond the line of sight while I was filming the beginning of the trail. Taking my time, I chose the roof of the annex as a support for the camera, entering the basement of a neighboring house and took pictures from other points.
When observing the trace through a telescope, its fibrous structure was clearly visible. At the places where the trace bends, all the "trickles" forming it were twisted, as if the object needed its own rotation to turn.
All the time we were observing this phenomenon and photographing it, we did not experience any psychological effects and I did not notice anything supernatural at all, except, of course, the extraordinary luminosity (strong) and the shape of the trace. The glow of its reflected moonlight should, in my opinion, be less strong. Although it was similar in color to the moon, the moon was behind us all the time during the observations. There was absolutely no wind and the trail was not going to disappear.
having lost my previous interest in him and getting pretty cold, I went to bed.
In my opinion, everything we have seen cannot be a natural phenomenon or our aircraft. The residual phenomenon of the object was photographed on a film with a sensitivity of 1000 units, the Zenit-E camera, the Helios 44 lens with a focal length of 200 mm. Aperture 2, shutter speed 6 seconds, The film was developed for 25 minutes in the developer UPK-1.
Hypotheses
Booster, the rocket and tracks
For UFOs often take stages of rockets, parts of space ships burning in the atmosphere, the launches of various missile technology for military purposes, etc., and traces from them. They attract attention mostly in the dark, but in the day time have a greater aura of mystery.
Formation of the track of the launch vehicle occurs in the tropopause (the layer between the troposphere and stratosphere), which sharply reduced the vertical temperature gradient. The emergence of the so-called "jellyfish" influenced by water vapor, which are subject to enhanced condensation.
