Initial data
On January 2, 1917, at 5:40 p.m., a large luminous object appeared from the Gulf of Finland, rapidly sweeping over Nevsky Prospekt.
The Stock Exchange Gazette of January 10, 1917 considered the subject to be a German observation probe. However, the estimated speed by Zhernovsky was about 150 fathoms (320.04 m per second) and could not be achieved by any of the known aircraft.
Zhernovsky, probably for the first time, noted the psychic effect of UFOs: in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, over which the projectile descended, two monks of the bell ringers lost their memory for a short time, while others considered the event a divine sign.
