A bright red-and-white meteor flashed in the sky over Cuba

The Cuban seismological station Moa recorded several bright light phenomena in the sky over the eastern part of Cuba. Eyewitnesses of the incident told about a red-and-white flash of light, followed by a loud explosion. Experts from the National Seismological Service believe that it was a meteor, according to Cubadebate.

The phenomenon was observed in the municipalities of Moa, Sagua de Tanamo and Maisi. Judging by the readings of the sensors, the explosion of the celestial object occurred before falling to earth, the instruments recorded a shock wave. The meteor flash during the explosion was like a strong lightning bolt.

Meteors fall apart into many fragments, which are often confused with terrestrial rocks, the remains of celestial objects are difficult to detect.

Fragments of six meteors have been found in Cuba, and their extraterrestrial origin has been scientifically confirmed by laboratory tests. The detected objects can provide clues about the formation of planets in the Solar System, including Earth.
