A rope tornado was spotted in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Spouses Neil and Danaya Serfas saw an unusual phenomenon during the inspection of rapeseed fields and managed to capture it on video.
A thin, twisting vortex moved across the fields and out onto the road. The tornado grew right before our eyes and lasted about 15 minutes.
AccuWeather meteorologists explained that rope tornadoes are usually very mobile, they twist and bend in their long and narrow condensation funnels. These tornadoes look weaker than normal tornadoes, but some of them become more intense as they narrow.
Tornadoes occur on the territory of Canada quite often, the country ranks second in the world in terms of the number of these phenomena, second only to the United States. Tornado season in Canada is observed in the summer, when the jet stream moves north.
In July and August, the jet stream reaches the northern regions of the country. This allows very warm and humid air to enter Canada, which is crucial for fueling severe thunderstorms and leading to frequent tornadoes.
