In Barnegat Bay off the coast of New Jersey, USA, a strong tornado was seen, which swept across the surface of the water on May 8 at about 13: 30 local time. No injuries or injuries were reported, NBC Philadelphia reported.

Eyewitnesses managed to make some impressive videos and shared the footage on social networks.

The US National Weather Service has issued a special warning for shipping from Manasquan Bay to Little Egg Bay. All ships were advised to wait out the bad weather in the harbor, as a water tornado can capsize the ship in rough seas.

Meteorologists noted that water tornadoes remain quite rare in this area, but can occur under suitable conditions.

In July 2020, when a band of severe thunderstorms passed through the state, 2 water tornadoes and several funnel-shaped clouds were also seen hanging over different areas of the New Jersey coast.
