A recently declassified video showed the work of a new generation laser weapon called DragonFire, developed by the United Kingdom. The device, worth over 100 million pounds, has shown its capabilities by hitting targets on test benches and in the field, including drones and mortar shells.
They have been working on the creation of DragonFire since 2017 under conditions of strict secrecy. Thanks to a new video from the UK Ministry of Defense, you can get more detailed information about it.
This 50 kW solid-state laser is a system consisting of alloyed glass fibers combined into a single powerful beam. DragonFire is equipped with a target detection system and an additional laser.
The video also showed DragonFire in action on a warship, where it disabled a boat, shot down drones and hit targets at sea. This laser weapon is not planned to be used in standard weapons, but only serves as a demonstration of technologies for the development of a more powerful system in the future.
One of the key advantages of DragonFire is its ability to hit targets at long distances with high accuracy and almost instantly. According to British experts, replacing expensive defensive missiles with more effective and affordable lasers can improve the UK's defense strategy.
