American researchers have determined the true origin of sound waves, which were previously associated with the fall of a meteorite.
According to the researchers, the fall of a meteorite over the western Pacific Ocean in early 2014 had a connection with vibrations recorded by a seismic station on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea. Last year, objects identified as "extraterrestrial" were found on the ocean floor near the place where fragments of the meteorite are supposed to have fallen (.pdf).
But, according to recent information, the real source of seismic signals was not a meteorite, but ... a truck passing along the highway near the seismometer.
As shown by the analysis of information received from seismic stations located in Palau and Australia, the meteorite actually fell in a completely different place — 160 km from the area that was initially investigated.
As experts have established, the objects extracted last year from the ocean floor could indeed be meteorites, but they have no connection with the celestial body of interest to scientists.
