A butterfly with a 25-centimeter wingspan was discovered by a construction crew at a primary school in Queensland, Australia.

Entomologists said that this creature, also called a wood moth, can reach a weight of 30 grams. The found individual turned out to be a female, while the males, as a rule, are half the size. It is noteworthy that the life of such butterflies lasts only a few days in nature and ends with the laying of eggs after mating. But the larvae, before becoming a butterfly, live for about three years.

According to the head of the school, Megan Steward, various creatures have already been found on the territory of the educational institution, including turkeys, wallabies, koalas, ducks, snakes, and once a turtle crawled into the library. This is due to the school's proximity to the rainforest. A giant tree moth has been discovered for the first time.

The case so impressed the public that the students of the school were even given the task to write an essay on the subject of the find.
