Many passengers felt a little turbulence during air travel, and strong and extreme turbulence feels intimidating. Pilots of the 53rd weather Reconnaissance squadron of the US Air Force" Hurricane Hunters " captured a rare type of cloud cover that indicates severe turbulence, AccuWeather reports.
The pilots captured on video a trail of turbulence in the clouds, left by vortices at the ends of the wings of the aircraft. Turbulence in the air flow occurs when air is drawn in from under the wing and rises to the top of it before being caught in a vortex that rotates at the end of the wing.
The larger and heavier the aircraft and the higher its speed, the greater the turbulence in the wake it creates. This problem is of great concern to pilots, as the planes are landing at the airport in close proximity to each other and may experience turbulence in the satellite track of another airliner.
In total, there are 7 types of turbulence, often the weather becomes a factor in its formation. Turbulence is usually an inconvenience rather than a danger to passengers and crew. Pilots believe that avoiding turbulence is a combination of art and science. Pilots are guided by weather maps, radar signals, and reports from other aircraft. Major airlines have their own meteorological departments.
