The Gulf of California turned out to be the habitat of mysterious creatures, which were discovered by the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute.
By means of a remotely controlled bot, the researchers identified at the bottom a kind of "pom-poms", or previously unknown to science worms-spaghetti Biremis. With a scrupulous analysis, experts came to the conclusion: they are representatives of this particular family. The creatures got this name due to their unusual appearance.
Biremis worms lack gill slits and eyes, and in addition there are no obvious bristles on their bodies. As a rule, colonies of such worms live on the ocean floor. The described creatures were found at depths of at least 2 kilometers.
Despite the harmful anthropogenic influence, the World Ocean continues to amaze humanity with its richness and diversity of life.
