The sinkhole that swallowed a man in 2013 has reopened in Florida

Florida, known for its sinkholes, has become the center of attention again after the sinkhole that swallowed a man in 2013 reopened. The epicenter of this event was the Seffner district, where 37-year-old Jeff Bush disappeared.

The history of this funnel began several years ago. In 2013, Bush was captured by a huge sinkhole that formed right under his house. His family heard a loud bang and a scream, but when they ran to the scene, they found that the man was no longer there. The crater was filled with gravel and debris, and the area was fenced off by the authorities.

However, now, a few years later, this funnel has reopened. On Monday, at 16:30, the fire service and deputies were called to assess the situation. On Tuesday, engineers were sent to the scene for further assessment. Residents of the area were assured that they could stay in their homes, as the sinkhole was cordoned off by a mesh fence and did not pose a threat to the surrounding buildings.

Such craters are not uncommon in Florida due to the peculiarities of the geological structure of the region. Porous limestone rock lying under residential areas causes the formation of sinkholes. As clay and water accumulate over weak spots, limestone does not withstand the combined weight and bends, creating a funnel. In this case, the sinkhole had a width of about 6 meters, which made it relatively small.

John-Paul Lavandeira, director of the county's code enforcement division, said none of the homes surrounding the sinkhole are in danger. He also noted that such phenomena are not uncommon in this region. This is confirmed by other sources that indicate that Florida is the epicenter of karst sinkholes.

The authorities decided to fill the sinkhole with a water-gravel mixture to close the hole and prevent possible dangers. The funnel will remain closed to the public for safety reasons.

This event reminds us that nature can be unpredictable and dangerous. Sinkholes are a serious problem for Florida residents, and precautions should be taken to avoid such incidents.
