Forest fires in the Western United States and Canada, caused the release of an extreme amount of smoke in the atmosphere. Ash plumes drifted across North America from coast to coast, mixing with the clouds that caused the formation of unusual atmospheric optical phenomena. August 20, Sharon Watson of Buxton, North Dakota photographed this rare smoky moon halo.
Watson noted that the phenomenon did not last long, but it was very beautiful.
Photo halo like hid behind strips of smoke — a sign of forest fires in the West of the country. Probably, soon there will be more such photos — because the approaching full moon and the fires still continue to rage.
