A strong magnetic storm has begun on Earth

On Sunday evening, March 24, a strong geomagnetic storm began on Earth. The Kp index has reached a value of 8, which corresponds to the G4 class (out of 5 possible).

The cause of the disturbances was the coronal mass ejection into the Sun, a phenomenon in which huge volumes of plasma rush from the solar corona into space. When the ejection reaches Earth, its interaction with the planet's magnetosphere can cause magnetic storms and auroras. Also, the emission can affect the operation of electronics, communication and navigation systems.
