The image shows a typical orange Saharan sunset. However, the photographer who took the photo was in Staffordshire (England).
A plume of Saharan dust swept across Europe at the beginning of the month, which led to the appearance of such sunsets in England, Ireland, Spain and other countries — thousands of kilometers from the desert. The dust raised by the wind helped to heat the air, creating thermal layers, which causes the shape of the sun's face to be distorted and it turns orange.
Every year, more than 180 million tons of dust is blown by winds from North Africa. Sometimes it crosses the Atlantic and reaches America, but more often it makes a shorter journey to Europe. The spring "sugar dust season" in Europe is just beginning.
