The ticking led experts to an unusual animal

Unusual sounds that rang out in the lowlands near the Pihao Gorge led experts to a subspecies of glass frogs that had not been known to science until now. They have transparent skin, internal organs are visible through it. Experts have given these creatures the name "Pihao glass frogs".

Their length is 2.5 cm, and the body seems shiny. The belly of the "ticking" frogs is transparent, and the back is green. In addition, a number of individuals have yellow or orange spots on the body, the pupils are surrounded by a pearl iris. Another difference is the green bones.

The word "Pihao" was included in the name of amphibians in honor of the Indians who bravely fought with the Spanish conquistadors.
