On August 5, in northern Sicily, a water tornado spectacularly came out on the beach of Cefalu, lifting sand and dust into the air.
Eyewitnesses filmed the natural phenomenon on video. The vortex formed over the water, near the beach, and then headed for the coast. Exit to the land did not immediately calm him down - the tornado raised dust, sand and small objects in the air, broke the trees, then, passing along the embankment, rushed to the houses. After reaching the land, it turned brown - because of the sand raised in the air.
The tornado did not cause serious damage, there were no casualties either.
How does the tornado appear?
The water vapor evaporating from the surface of warm water quickly rises upwards, twisting in a spiral. Due to centrifugal force, the air pressure in the tornado drops sharply, and, as a result, the temperature drops sharply. Water vapor begins to condense below the base of the parent cloud, from which the "trunk" descends down. This is how the tornado becomes visible. It draws water from the surface of the sea, because of which another funnel of splashes and water dust rises towards it.
