Wednesday, January 31, the people of Earth witnessed a unique astronomic event: the day the Supermoon coincided with the "bloody" lunar Eclipse and the so-called "Blue Moon." The last time this occurred half a century ago, in 1866.
During SUPERLINE full Moon appears larger and brighter than usual due to the proximity to the Ground. In this case, the distance between the satellite and the planet was 350 thousand kilometers.
"Blue Moon" referred to the second full moon in a month. The first occurred on 2 January.
"Blood Moon" is the result of refraction of sunlight during a full lunar Eclipse, when the satellite is in earth's shadow.
Lunar metamorphosis can be seen on four continents. Most fortunate are the inhabitants of Siberia, the Far East, Japan, Australia and the West coast of the U.S. in these regions, the phenomenon was particularly spectacular.
In Moscow, the observation was prevented by cloudy weather, besides the capital, the Eclipse was not complete. In St. Petersburg the red-orange Moon was clearly visible.
