On Saturday, October 13, a crack opened in Earth's magnetic field. The incoming solar wind caused geomagnetic storm of G1 and bright auroras around the Arctic circle. Colin Palmer recorded the video with the dancing green lights of the Norwegian city of Tromso.
"It was a great flash with crowns and curtains, lasting over ten minutes," says Palmer.Crown in the auroras is a group of rays, which the observer sees directly over his head, and it seems as if from the sky a luminous cascade falling rain, from cosmic energetic particles.
On the video from 25 seconds start amazing metamorphosis — green rays dazzle in dance to emerge and purple patterns. The curtain is the effulgence in the form of a narrow ribbon which winds waves, reminiscent of the folds.
Now the Earth is inside stream of solar wind flowing from the hole in the solar atmosphere, and tonight will be more Arctic auroras.
