Specialists from the Italian Institute of Technology have developed a four-legged robot called VERO, which stands for "Vacuum cleaner Equipped RObot" (Vacuum cleaner Equipped RObot), which was trained to find and remove garbage using a "backpack" with a vacuum cleaner on its back and nozzles from it on its "paws".
According to a publication in the Journal of Field Robotics, the Chinese robot robot AlienGo of the company became the basis for the device developed by the Italians Unitree.
It is noted that VERO is aimed at cleaning cigarette butts, which are one of the most common forms of garbage. With the help of a pair of cameras and a sophisticated neural network, the robot is able to notice bulls on the ground and form its route to walk right through them, turning on the vacuum cleaner and sucking them in, and then continue moving.
So far, the development of Italian engineers lacks the smoothness and speed of movements that are inherent in robots Unitree, but at the same time, such a development may well find its niche in helping to clean beaches, as well as cleaning stairs from discarded steers.
