Sovetskaya Square — the square in Voronezh, located in the Central district of the city. It is one of the oldest in Voronezh.

In the 1750s, it was called Meat (less often - Butcher's), because then meat was traded on it. Fish, vegetables, firewood, and coal were also sold there at the beginning of the XX century. There were also blacksmiths next to the shops, which were later moved outside the city limits.

In 1899 The City Duma decided to install a monument to the poet Ivan Savvich Nikitin in Voronezh, and turn the square itself into a square and rename it Nikitinsky. However, it was decided to install the monument in another place, and the market remained in its place and continued to operate.

After the Revolution of 1917 Meat Square was renamed Soviet Square in the 1920s. In 1924 it was planned to liquidate the market again, and transform the square into a square, but this time the plans did not come to fruition.

After the Great Patriotic War, it was supposed to arrange a university campus next to the square, but the market continued to function until the 1960s, when it was still removed. But even then the square was called Meat Square: on August 12, 1963, the newspaper "Kommunar", publishing a photo of the new square, called it "The Former Meat Bazaar".

In 1976, a monument to the poet A.V. Koltsov was unveiled on the square, which in 1997 was moved away from Pokrovskaya Square and closer to the Drama Theater building founded in 1976 (now Voronezh Concert Hall). The square on the square was reconstructed during the late 1980s - late 1990s.

In 2017, the monument to Koltsov was dismantled and moved to Koltsov Boulevard in 2018. In the same year, the reconstruction of the square was completed.

According to urban legends, it is believed that the place still carries the strongest energy of blood and animal killings.
