Initial data
Just noticed my brother in a 40x telescope outside Rapid City, South Dakota.
Does anyone know what it could be? I can post a video if you're interested. He says it lasted about 30 minutes and was motionless in the sky before it disappeared.
Just to the left of the Moon at 20:41 mountain time
Outside Rapid City, South Dakota, through a 40x telescope just now
My brother called me to see if there was anything that could look the same in the sky. My best guess is the garbage burning up in the atmosphere. I looked at one of the SkyView apps, and it didn't match any stars or planets. In addition, it is visible in the sky, and it is still too bright to see other stars.
According to him, the object lasted about 30 minutes and hovered in the sky before disappearing.
He said that for him it would be east of his location, a little south of Rapid City.

Brother gave me a call to see if there’s anything I know of that could look like this in the sky. My best guess is debris burning up in the atmosphere. Looked it up on one of those SkyView apps and it didn’t correspond to any stars or planets. In addition it’s visible in the sky and it’s still too light out to see any other stars.

Hypotheses
Objects and light sources out of focus
When the objects are out of focus, their silhouettes blurred and poorly recognizable. They can look like dark or colored translucent stain. This is often the cobwebs, spiders, insects in front of the camera.

I found this photo of a high-altitude balloon through a telescope that looks almost identical
Indeed, it is very similar.
