"Point of tranquility" (orig. "Død Kalm") – the nineteenth episode of the second season of the series "Secret materials". The episode refers to the type of "monster of the week" and is not associated with the main "mythology" of the series, given in the first series.
In the book "The Unofficial X-Files Companion" by N. Gang notes the similarity of the plot of "Død Kalm" with stories about the "Philadelphia experiment" – a mythical military experiment for teleportation of the ship with crew on Board. In the episode actually is, as direct references and allusions to these stories.
About "the Philadelphia experiment" according to the course of the story Mulder tells Scully. He believes that the experiment was conducted during the Second world war and was part of the military program, the purpose of which was to try to make battleships invisible to radar. After the war, the program was closed, and most scientists are not transferred to Los Alamos, according to the official version, and in Roswell. According to Mulder, in the "Philadelphia experiment" the military used alien technology. According to his story, 10 months after the Roswell incident the American ship "Eldridge" disappeared from the radars of the Navy Philadelphia and a few minutes later came many miles in Norfolk, Virginia. Mulder believes that conducting the experiment, the physicists were trying to manipulate wormholes on Earth – "portals where nothing imperiously over time, it slows down and speeds up".
In this description, a lot of inaccuracies. According to ufologists, the experiment, which resulted in teleportation of the USS Eldridge, was carried out in 1943, while Rozwarski the incident occurred in 1947.
Reliable information that the ship in one day was seen in Norfolk, and in Philadelphia, the distance between which exceeds 320 kilometers, has not survived. However, this day make was possible with the use of the Chesapeake-Delaware canal, linking Chesapeake Bay and the Delaware river. Officially, the government denies the fact of the "Philadelphia experiment", but confirms other experiments in which the ships wanted to do is not invisible to radar, and magnetic Fuze mines and torpedoes, which is quite out.In addition, Mulder distorts the concept of the wormhole (eng. "wormhole") – by definition, this is a hypothetical topological feature of space-time, which is a constant in time "tunnel" in space.
In addition to the "Philadelphia experiment" in the episode following the mysterious disappearance of ships:
- 12 December 1949 between Leeds and Cape Perry lost the Battleship of the Royal Navy.
- In 1963 he disappeared without a trace 6 ships of the Soviet fleet, bound for Havana.
- Only 9 of unexplained disappearances on the 65th parallel.
We could not find any actual cases, which could be based on this information.

In the Norwegian sea command of the USS "Ardent" in panic leaving the ship, ignoring the pleas and threats of the captain. Eighteen hours later the boat with a much older during this period the sailors picks up a canadian fishing vessel.
In the naval hospital Bethesda, Mulder and Scully visit the only surviving team member – twenty-three year old Lieutenant Richard Harper, who looks like a decrepit old man. Mulder discovers that the "Ardent" was lost somewhere near the 65th parallel, which has repeatedly gone ships. Mulder believes that there is a "curvature in time", which is associated with the "Philadelphia experiment" conducted during the Second world war.
Arriving in the Norwegian town Telescan, Mulder and Scully, having received rejections from all the Norwegian sailors, agree with the American Henry Trondheim that he would deliver them on his trawler to the last known location of the "Ardent". With difficulty he reached the ship, the agents find his body traces extremely strong corrosion, although the "Ardent" launched only a few years earlier. In the cabin, the agents find the bodies of several members of the team, turned into a mummy. Meanwhile, the trawler team, afraid to die, takes the ship, casting agents, Trondheim and his first mate Halverson on Board the "Ardent". Soon Halverson, stragglers from the group, someone is killing, shattering his head. The galley Mulder finds the much older captain Barclay, who claims that "time lost", after over the sea were seen glowing. Night agents and Trondheim notice that they all began to age rapidly.
In the morning captain Barclay dies of old age. Trondheim on the deck trying to kill an iron pipe, the Norwegian poacher of Olaffson that was previously caught by the team of "Ardent" together with his accomplices. He doesn't look old. Scully suggests that the ship is drifting towards a large metal object on the ocean floor, resulting in free radicals accelerate the oxidation processes of the organism, causing aging. Mulder finds the only thing not rusted through the sewer pipe, which leads into the sump, where the swarming of rats lie dead not aged accomplices Olaffson who killed each other over water. Mulder comes to the conclusion that all water in addition to circulating around in the sewers of a ship infected with something. Trondheim, knowing the secret of preserving life, kills Olaffson, and the agents says that he ran away.
Scully conducts analyses and discovers that contaminated water leads to destruction of cells and increased content of sodium salts in the blood. Mulder weakens from lack of drinking water. Scully discovers that Trondheim's locked himself in the sump with all the remaining uncontaminated tank water, but the rust eats the side, and Trondheim floods inside the compartment. Scant supply of potable liquids do not help, and badly aged agents lose consciousness shortly before they saved the US Navy.
Waking up in Bethesda, Scully and bear the traces of aging on the face sees Mulder in the next bed. Dr. Laskas tells Scully that her research on the ship helped to cure them both. Scully replies that he wants to return to the ship and to conduct additional studies, but the doctor informs her that the ship sank in less than an hour after the agents were saved.

Phenomena in artwork: Chronoanomalia
The events take place in the Northern part of the Atlantic ocean, in a place where, according to Norwegian legend, a long time ago from heaven huge stone fell and crashed into the ice.
Nowadays, the members of the crew of the USS see the flash in the night misty sky. Soon the ship turns off the power supply, everything freezes, even the sea and wind. After that "the ship begins to bleed" (in the case of pipe joints begins to ooze rust). The metal part of the vehicle begin to rust very quickly, and the crew members to age rapidly and die. After death people are mummified and covered with a salt crust.
The cause of the rapid corrosion of metals and aging of people is water, which got something. Moreover, the water from the desalination plant unfit for drinking, while the water circulating in the sewer system, aging or corrosion does not cause.
