The Perseid meteor shower, which is expected to peak on August 11-12, is considered the best annual meteor shower among stargazers. The Perseids bring a large number of meteors, and the night temperatures of August are comfortable for spending a night under the stars, AccuWeather reports, citing the American Meteor Society.
On the night of August 11-12, from 60 to 100 meteors per hour can be seen in the sky, which is 1-2 meteors per minute.
This year, it will be convenient to observe the Perseids, since the moon will be below the horizon most of the night, this allows you to see even dim meteors. But the light pollution of cities and highways can interfere with the observation of the night sky.
In 2020, the moon was almost full, its light reduced the number of meteors visible from Earth.
The thickest meteor shower will be observed on August 11 after dark, with a rate increasing over the course of the night. The peak is expected one or two hours before dawn on Thursday, August 12.
