Several meteor fireballs swept over the Australian state of Victoria on Wednesday night, ABC reports.
An amazing and rare phenomenon was recorded by the Global Network of Fireballs — an Australian network of cameras designed to track meteoroids entering the atmosphere.
The first fireball was recorded shortly before 18:30, followed by another one around 21:00 and two more just after 04:00, said Andy Tomkins, a professor at Monash University and a member of the network.
Meteors in the night sky were observed by dozens of residents of Victoria in several places.
Astronomers claim that the meteors were not part of a meteor shower, but originated from asteroids.
