In Yellowstone National Park in the western United States, a photographer planned and captured an amazing picture. Green polar lights stretched like a garland over the horizon, red lights blazed a little higher, and distant stars twinkled behind them. But it was necessary to wait for another participant of the composition. And just after midnight, the White Dome geyser, visible in the foreground, threw a jet of water with steam into the sky. The picturesque scene was illuminated by bright moonlight.
Burning magma at a depth of several kilometers heats the underground water to the state of steam, as a result, it comes out through cracks to the surface, and due to pressure, a gushing jet is obtained. Approximately 50% of all geysers known in the world are located on the territory of Yellowstone Park, famous for its geothermal objects.
The geomagnetic storm that caused the auroras subsided during the day, but the White Dome continued to erupt every half hour.
