Baikal enveloped dangerous Spirogyra

Scientists of the Limnological Institute of the Siberian branch of the RAS alarmed at the state of the ecosystem of lake Baikal.

To the greatest extent, the problem is the process of hidden atrophicae. This means that in shallow water and in salesboy area is deteriorating water quality due to its saturation of nutrients. In the case of lake Baikal there is a surplus of nitrogen and phosphorus. It testifies to anthropogenic factor pollution: all because of discharges of untreated sewage and detergents containing phosphate.

In addition, about 60 percent of the coast of lake Baikal is covered with dangerous algae by Spirogyra. Despite the fact that this species of algae are characteristic of stagnant water and warm zones, now, an anomaly never observed on the lake, turned into a risk factor. The researchers also attributed the changes in coastal pollution, have reached catastrophic proportions.

Specialists of the center "Antistikhia" argue that the current treatment facilities of communal services are not cope with their functions.
