On one of the beaches of nice formed a five-meter crater. The city authorities claim that it is a usual natural phenomenon.

A funnel began to form Wednesday in front of witnesses. The ground failed and the pit filled with muddy water. The diameter of the crater was five meters deep and little more than a meter.

Local authorities have fenced the crater formed in front of the famous hotel Palais de la Méditerranée, Lido beach on the promenade des Anglais. The pit is located five metres from the water's edge.

Mayor of nice Christian Estrosi in his Twitter wrote that this is a common natural phenomenon that happens several times a year. Some publications suggested that the soil collapsed due to groundwater. And it is on this beach in the last ten years, this happens for the third time.

Now the funnel is studied by scientists, after their work is planned to fill the crater.
