The initial idea of a photographer was to do a series of shots of the Northern lights, which could create a timelapse video. But suddenly something broke and Arctic night momentarily turned into day.
Crossing the sky the object was so bright that it looked like a ball of fire. It was a meteor from the Geminids stream. He broke out at the Big dipper for a few seconds, illuminating the surrounding landscape.
The camera is prepared for shooting the Northern lights, captured the whole way. The picture was taken later the night after the peak of the meteor shower Geminids. Astrophotographer was near the lake Lovozero in the center of the Kola Peninsula in Murmansk, North of the Arctic circle.
Meteor shower Geminids (from the English. Gemini — Twins) is usually observed in the first half of December, peaking on December 13-14.
