In the UK, student Regina Valkenburg accidentally took a photo with an exposure of eight years. This was reported by the website of the University of Hertfordshire, where the girl studied.
Valkenburg used a makeshift pinhole camera that she made out of a cider can to shoot. In 2012, the girl left the camera in the observatory of the educational institution. employees of the university discovered it only in september 2020.
david campbell, technical director of the bayfordbury observatory, found a sheet of photographic paper next to the camera. It displayed 2,953 arc-shaped traces of the Sun rising and falling over a period of eight years and one month.
According to Valkenburg, she did not intend to create a picture for such a long time and is surprised that it did not spoil.
"It was fortunate that the image remained intact," said the photographer, who now works at Barnet and Southgate College.
The photo of Valkenburg is probably the result of the longest shooting in history. Previously, the record belonged to the German artist Michael Wesely: he shot his image for four years and eight months.
