The stars are shining, and the moons glow in this clear night sky above the nature reserve, Wannon falls in the South-West of the state of Victoria in Australia.
Above the treetops you can see the Large Magellanic Cloud is a dwarf galaxy companion of the milky Way. In the foreground shines amazing Omphalotus nidiformis mushroom, notable for its bioluminescent properties, which is also known as the Ghost mushroom. All kinds of impalata (Omphalotus) are poisonous, some have bioluminescent properties. This genus is found in the forests of the world, however Omphalotus nidiformis Ghost — only in the South-West of Australia.
As Magellanic Cloud, Ghost fungus were visible to the naked eye. His ghostly glow was actually a dull green, but in the picture from a digital camera, it appears bright green.
To create this image, it was used two shots: one with a focus on the distant stars and the Large Magellanic Cloud at a distance of about 160 000 light-years from us, and the other with a focus on the foreground with the fungus (in a few light-nanoseconds from the camera lens).
