On Friday, 1 February, residents of Cuba reported a fireball in the sky over the island. People also heard the sounds of an explosion. Later, experts from the Institute of Geophysics and astronomy (IGA) of Cuba confirmed that the region has fallen meteorite (presumably, there were two).
Fragments of meteorite of the stone type fell in the municipality of viñales, Pinar del Rio, they are also looking for in the city of Matanzas. The largest found so far the fragment has a length of about 11 inches. The fragments consist of iron, Nickel, and magnesium silicate.
The devastation of the meteorite fall has not caused, and no casualties were reported.
The current meteorite was the seventh on record in Cuba. Previous meteorite fell in 2001, and the largest fragment of the meteorite was found in 1938 (1099 grams).
