A deep sinkhole more than 90 m wide has formed in Mexico

In the state of Puebla, located in the central part of Mexico, there was a massive sinkhole. In rural areas, a sinkhole with a diameter of more than 90 m has formed, it is rapidly expanding, threatening to engulf an entire farm, reports <url> The Independent.

The depth of the sinkhole is approximately 18 m, it is filled with water. When the hole was first noticed, its diameter was up to 5 m, in a week the sinkhole grew dangerously. According to local residents, the size of the crater grew in just a day, it happened after a loud bang, resembling a thunderclap.

People have been evacuated from the house, which is under threat of collapse, and the authorities are asking citizens to stay away from the risk zone.

Experts from the Ministry of the Environment of Mexico believe that the sinkhole was the result of subsidence of the soil due to pumping of groundwater. Also, its formation could be affected by the softening of the field during long-term processing.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the appearance of sinkholes in the ground provokes significant seismic activity, the lower layers of the earth are weakened and can not support the soil.
