This amazing car was spotted over Spain on September 3 at 5:34 local time (corresponds to 3:34 world time). It was as bright as the full moon.
This event was caused by a rock (meteoroid) from an asteroid that crashed into the atmosphere at a speed of about 57,000 km/h. A fireball flew over the Gulf of Cadiz. It began at an altitude of about 94 km above the Atlantic Ocean, moved to the southeast and ended at an altitude of about 38 km above the sea, over a point located about 300 meters from the coast of the province of Cadiz (southwest Spain).
This bright meteor was registered as part of the SMART project carried out by the Meteor Network of Southwest Europe (SWEMN) from meteor observation stations located in Huelva, the Observatory of La Hita (Toledo), Sierra Nevada, La Sagra (Granada) and Seville. The event was analyzed by the main researcher of the SMART project: Dr. Jose M. Magiedo from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).
