A bright meteor associated with the alpha Capricornid stream was registered over Spain on August 5. The event was clearly visible in the night sky, the fireball broke out at 00: 22 GMT, reports The Watchers.
According to the information of the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC), the phenomenon was caused by a fragment of comet 169P / NEAT, the space stone collided with the Earth's atmosphere at a speed of about 90 thousand km / h.
The fireball was registered over the Mediterranean Sea at an altitude of about 104 km, the last flare was observed at an altitude of about 73 km over the Spanish province of Almeria.
The meteor was recorded by scientists of the SMART project, managed by the Meteor Network of Southwestern Europe( SWEMN), the object was noticed at meteor stations located in astronomical observatories in Almeria, Toledo, Granada, Seville and Huelva.
The Alpha Capricornid meteor shower runs from July 3 to August 15, its peak fell on July 30.
