The solar wind stream hits the Earth's magnetic field at a speed of more than 600 km/s. This causes small geomagnetic storms of class G1. In Europe, auroras caused by the flow of the solar wind, this time were observed even in the south of Scotland.
Photographer Graham Whipps, from Scotland, said he had to climb a mountain to get above the fog covering Aberdeenshire. The view was definitely worth the effort, though. The glow lit up the sky above the clouds of mist on the northern horizon.
The solar wind flows out of a hole in the Sun's atmosphere. The earth will remain inside the stream for another day, with the possibility that the wind speed may exceed 700 km / s, which will break the records of recent years.
