At the beginning of the 19th century, this castle overlooking the Irish Sea was built by the Bamford-Hesketh family. The castle was inherited by Countess Winfrid of Dundonald, who was known as the patroness of Welsh art and music. Her husband spent half of his life in Scotland, so the whole castle and its territory were at the service of his wife and her guests.
In 1946, the castle was sold and has since changed many owners. Medieval festivals were held here, films were shot, but after a while the castle became abandoned and began to collapse. Later, the ceiling collapsed here, breaking the floor in the castle.
It is said that high paranormal activity is monitored in this castle. Locals claim that often a young woman appears in an empty window. Someone believes that this is the spirit of a young maid, and someone is the ghost of Countess Winfried herself.
UFO researchers say that celebrities staying at Gwrich Castle have a good chance of a strange encounter with the inhabitants of another world. What is known about this place, writes The Sun.
Gwrych Castle was built between 1810 and 1825 by Lloyd Hesketh Bamford-Hesketh (1787-1861) in memory of his mother Frances Lloyd and her ancestors. According to several articles from 1913, on the main road leading to Colwyn Bay, not far from the estate, one man claimed to have seen a "headless monster" in a field behind a hedge. Another claimed that he heard a screech on the same road, but the headless creature turned out to be a black and white sheep, which looked headless due to the fact that its black head merged with the shadows of hedges, although the screech turned out to be a broken tree branch that was blown away by the wind. This heightened fear has caused many people to avoid this road entirely, walking miles further or taking a train instead. The men also took up arms, buying revolvers to protect themselves on the way to work.
Current researchers in the field of the unidentified claim that the castle has been at the center of the paranormal for more than 100 years - and this is not to mention reports of ghosts and big cats. Expert Russ Kellett says that his colleague shared a message about what is now called a UFO in the castle back in 1892, which may have been the first such meeting in Wales. According to him, the incident, pieced together from reports of that time, was witnessed by people transporting logs to the coast on horse-drawn carts.
"They were not far from the castle gate, and light fell on them from the castle side, like a beacon beam. Then they heard a buzzing that got louder and louder. After that, eyewitnesses described how they saw a metal disk or an object flying over them, and a blinding light. Horses and people ran away and did not return until the next day," the researcher said.
Russ added that back then people didn't have the term "UFO", witnesses described it as something hellish or demonic. It was reported that one of them said:
"I thought hell had opened up. We all ran for our lives."
When asked if this means that someone visiting the castle at the moment could see something otherworldly, the expert assures:
"Of course, yes!"
Since 1892, North Wales has been a hotbed of reported sightings from Anglesey to the mouth of the River Dee. Last year, this place was singled out as hot spots for UFO sightings, as the UK's response to the Classified Materials was published for the first time. The claimed UFO sightings, obtained by the now-defunct "UFO Bureau" unit in the Royal Air Force, were published on the UK government website.
