Ice floes in the form of pancakes appeared on the river in Birobidzhan

The Biru River, flowing through Birobidzhan, was covered with ice of an unusual shape. Eyewitnesses filmed a kind of ice "pancakes" accumulated on the surface of the reservoir, and posted the footage on social networks. Some compare the shape of ice to pizza.

Most of the townspeople were amused by the strange natural phenomenon and only gave them a reason for jokes of varying degrees of wit, and some showed a tendency to paranoia. However, such suspicion in the light of recent environmental disasters rather speaks of prudence. A rumor spread among Birobidzhans that the cause of the phenomenon could be an oil spill, which forms oil circles on the water. However, when one of the "pancakes" was melted, the presence of oil in the liquid was not confirmed.

According to the head of the city hydrometeorological bureau Elena Chernobrovina, the acid-base balance in the sample is normal, ice formations are completely safe. And the reason for their formation was sudden temperature changes and the appearance of a specific foam, which then froze in the form of circles.
