In Turkish social networks, the cosmic event was vigorously discussed and wrote that a meteorite had fallen in Istanbul. Then a statement was received from the Turkish Space Agency regarding an object emitting green light observed from different points in Turkey.

The green object seen in the sky of Istanbul at night surprised those who saw it.

Images shared by citizens on social networks were on Turkey's agenda. It was curious what kind of object it was, visible from many cities. Some users claimed that a meteorite had fallen in Istanbul.

The pictures show a green light rapidly descending from the sky.

It soon became clear what kind of object was emitting green light. The following statements were made in the statement of the Turkish Space Agency:

"Last night, a glowing green meteorite was spotted in various parts of Turkey."

These celestial bodies can be observed in the atmosphere of a variety of colors because of their chemical structure. Meteorites collide with a large number of air molecules when they enter the Earth's atmosphere. These collisions burn the outer layers of the meteorite, creating pairs of sodium, iron and magnesium atoms.

The color of many meteorites is due to the light emitted by the metal atoms in them (blue, green and yellow), and the light emitted by atoms and molecules of air (red).
