Meteor showers occur when the flow of solid cosmic particles the size of dust and more burn up in the Earth's atmosphere. The orbits of meteor showers often coincide with the orbits of comets, fragments of which they are. All the paths of the meteors are parallel to each other, but the effect of perspective, as in the case of train tracks, creates the illusion that they come from a single remote point.
The image was taken during the January meteor shower Quadrantids from the island of La Palma, part of the Canary archipelago located off the Northwest coast of Africa. The radiant quadrantid visible just below the handle of the Big dipper. Upon closer examination, you can also notice a faint green coma of the comet Virtanen.
This week in the night from 22 to 23 April, peaked the first spring Starfall — Lerida.
