On November 19, earthlings are expecting the longest lunar eclipse in half a millennium

A partial lunar eclipse, which can be observed from America, Northern Europe, East Asia and Australia, is expected on Friday, November 19. This is the last lunar eclipse in 2021 and the longest partial lunar eclipse in more than 500 years, according to Newsweek.

The partial eclipse phase will last 3 hours, 28 minutes and 24 seconds, the total eclipse - 6 hours and 1 minute, it is also the longest partial lunar eclipse from 1440 to 2699.

The moon will begin to sink into the penumbra of the Earth at 06:02 GMT, and the moment of the greatest eclipse will occur at 09:02 GMT, this is 1.7 days before the Moon reaches its apogee.

The whole event will last approximately 6 hours, but observers in different parts of the world will be able to see only fragments of it.

Partial lunar eclipses occur when the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, but they are not aligned on the same line, only part of the visible surface of the satellite falls into the shadow created by the Earth. Observers in most countries will see that up to 97% of the moon's surface falls into the shadow of our planet.

Two weeks later, this event will be followed by a total solar eclipse on December 4. All these phenomena take place during one eclipse season.
