The fall of the meteorite was recorded over Spain on December 9. It was almost as bright as the full moon. The fireball was observed by many random eyewitnesses who reported it on social networks.
The event was generated by a rock (meteoroid) from the asteroid 2004 TG10, which crashed into the atmosphere at a speed of about 107,000 km/h. A fireball flew over the Atlantic Ocean. It started at an altitude of about 99 km above the Atlantic Ocean, moved southwest and ended at an altitude of about 64 km above the sea.
This bright meteor was registered as part of the SMART project carried out by the Meteor Network of Southwest Europe (SWEMN) from meteor observation stations located in Seville, Huelva and La Sagra (Granada). The event was analyzed by the main researcher of the SMART project: Dr. Jose M. Madiedo from the Institute of Astrophysics of Andalusia (IAA-CSIC).
