A small lake in Paraguay just one night quite terribly transformed, becoming blood-red. The authorities continue to investigate the reasons for such an ominous change.
According to locals, the newly acquired shade of the reservoir can be caused by runoff from tannery plants located nearby. In other words, the epithet "bloody" in this case can be a literal definition.
The water in Laguna Cerro near the city of Limpio (three dozen kilometers from the Paraguayan capital) began to gradually blush during the quarantine, but recently this process accelerated sharply, and it has acquired a thick red hue. From light pink it became bloody in just one night. At the same time, there is an unpleasant smell on the shore, because of which it is almost impossible to stay at the water for a long time in the nearest district.
Special services examine water samples. According to the first results of laboratory studies, the reservoir contains chemicals and organic contamination. The shade may indicate the presence of iron, chromium and zinc - these metals are just used in the tanning of skins. Harmful cyanobacteria were also detected in the water.
