The Phoenix shone over Iceland

Last year in Iceland, a quiet September night, most spolokhov in the sky faded and almost all the observers went home. However, about 03:30 local time began, the interaction of charged particles with the upper atmosphere suddenly burst illuminated the atmosphere, creating a wonderful sight, resembling a giant Phoenix.

Fortunately, the camera was ready and the photographer named Hallgrimur P. Helgason managed to make two exposures of the sky and one earth. The mountain in the background is Helgafell, and in the foreground you can see a little river Kalda. They are located about 30 km North of the capital Reykjavik. In the picture you can also see the constellation Orion directly above the mountain, a little to the left, and above that hung the Pleiades.
